We now have less than two weeks to go until we have the scholas from 3 Fort Collins parishes join together to sing a single Mass on November 15th. Actually, I found out that we can claim four parishes, because a gentleman has joined us from Greeley who is the “one person schola” for his [...] I’ve felt quite guilty about my inexperience as regarding Sacred Music: I’m a convert to Catholicism, so I have no first-hand knowledge before about 1980. I didn’t know chant until I started with this schola about five years ago. I didn’t know Latin, and my knowledge is still quite sketchy. [...] I love to hear supportive comments, and am challenged to accept criticism, but the hardest thing can sometimes be getting no feedback at all. If my priest, schola members, or director of music don’t say much, what does that mean? [...] As a result of the wonderful discussions at the CMAA Colloquium and encouragement of my colleagues, I am offering a new service today: Sacred Music Group Coaching. The details are here. [...] Last week I talked about the chant workshop I put on in our parish. The primary point of that workshop was just to grow familiarity with chant. But then… [...] I’ve been stressing over the chant workshop that I put together for our parish, and unfortunately it also fell on a day when I had two job interviews. Let’s just say that there was no shortage of adrenaline coursing through my veins yesterday. [...] It’s exciting, we’re starting up our new year of chant for the parish. [...] I made some good progress this week on setting up an Introduction to Chant workshop for our parish. It’s now scheduled for the evening of August 20th, and I’ve made sure people know that it’s open to anyone and everyone in the parish. Specifically: kids and women, as there seems to be the misconception that [...] The progress this week on Sacred Music Coach has been pretty amazing. First, the website now exists. Here we are! More important, I had a chance to talk with some new friends – Pepper, Eric, Barbara – and reconnect with an old friend, Jon, about my ideas for group coaching in this area.
